DISCOVERING FRIENDSHIP From “Recovering Sanity”, E. Podvoll, p. 277
Within the intimacy of basic attendance friendly feelings develop. This is inescapable. It is related to appreciating another person’s quality of energy , to enjoying being with them, to having mutual concerns, and to doing things together. It take time to make a friend, and there seem to be certain obligations that go along with it. But what is most important for basic attendance is that a trust develops in which you can tell the truth, and even if it is unpleasant it can still be heard. And when friendship does develop, there comes a time when the patient cares more for his relationship with us than he does for the demands of the other world. (..)
